About legalanswers.in
legalanswers.in is a free, independent reference site for common Indian legal questions. We turn the statutes, Supreme Court rulings, and government procedures that govern everyday life in India into plain-language answers — with direct links back to the original sources.
What this site is
A free public resource covering hundreds of questions across criminal law, family and succession, property, employment, consumer rights, banking, taxation, cyber law, medical law, motor vehicles, NRI matters, civil liberties, and more. Every answer cites the relevant statute section, recent amendments (BNS 2023, BNSS 2023, BSA 2023, DPDPA 2023, etc.), and landmark judgments. Wherever a procedure is described, we link to the actual government portal — Parivahan, DigitalSky, Vahan, IndiaCode, RBI Sachet, cybercrime.gov.in — so you can act on the information directly.
What this site is not
We are not a law firm.We do not represent clients, accept retainers, or provide personalised legal advice. We don't recommend specific lawyers or take referral fees. The site has no advertising, no paywall, no email capture, and no upsells.
Why this exists
Reliable Indian legal information online is fragmented. Most pages are either paywalled bar reviews, lawyer marketing thinly disguised as guides, or generic content with no citations. Ordinary people facing a property dispute, a wrongful FIR, a credit card freeze, or a wedding gone wrong deserve to read the actual law in language they can use — before they spend thousands of rupees on a consultation.
Limitations you should know
Indian law moves fast. Statutes get amended, Supreme Court benches reverse themselves, state rules vary widely. We aim to keep answers current and mark each article with a last-updated date, but for any decision that involves your money, freedom, family, or property, consult a registered advocate. Most states offer free legal aid through District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) — the NALSA helpline is 15100.
